Imigranci mogliby wnieść o wiele większy wkład do brytyjskiej gospodarki, gdyby pracodawcy czynili pełen użytek z ich kwalifikacji zawodowych i praktycznych umiejętności - stwierdza raport największej brytyjskiej centrali związkowej TUC.
Ich zdaniem pracodawcy wykazują  niepokojący brak rozeznania w zdolnościach i kwalifikacjach imigrantów, czego konsekwencją jest ich systematyczne pomijanie w kierowaniu do prac, w których mogliby wykorzystywać swe umiejętności i zdobywać nowe, a tym samym rozwijać się zawodowo.
Z niedawnej ankiety Polskiego Radia Londyn wynika, że ogromna większość polskich imigrantów ma wykształcenie wyższe (45 proc.) lub średnie (41,2 proc.). Pozostali mają wykształcenie zawodowe (8,8 proc.), a reszta podstawowe (5,0 proc).
Z innego sondażu radia wynika, iż 18,6 proc. ankietowanych zarabia na granicy ustawowego minimum płacowego (5,52 funta na godzinę). 39,6 proc. zarabia nieco powyżej (5,53-8,0 funta). 8-10 funtów za godzinę zarabia 21,6 proc. ankietowanych, a powyżej 10 funtów - 20,2 proc.
Wykwalifikowani pracownicy szukają zaczepienia na brytyjskim rynku pracy, wypełniając istniejące luki, ale pracodawcy nie czynią użytku z ich kwalifikacji, na czym traci gospodarka.
